2024 A “Flexible” Year

Every year has its share of ups and downs; health and illness; victories and losses. 2023 was an extraordinary year for me as I know it was for many.
My recap reel would include:
- Fighting a three-year battle with cancer and winning!
- Reconnecting with old friends and finding new love
- Losing my mother and grieving her companionship
- Saying goodbye to my giant furbaby
- Ending the year with a move to the mountains and the start of a new life chapter
We’ve now launched into 2024!
The beginning of a new year is a great time to review, reflect, and regroup, it also provides us with an opportunity to focus on our dreams, make plans, and determine the actions we will pursue. January can take on a sense of newness and hopefulness about the activities, changes, and life to come. Some start the year looking for a scripture to inspire them, some divide life into categories and set specific goals each year, and others select a word that can be used as a focal point moving forward. I’ve done all of these myself and taken clients through the processes. Over the years we have seen great results.
This year I chose a word for myself because, to be honest, it came to me in the middle of the night and made me curious.
FLEXIBLE
The dictionary defines flexibility as being ready and able to change, to adapt to different circumstances.
I think of myself as a fairly flexible individual based on this definition so I wanted to dig deeper and decided to search for the Biblical meaning of flexibility. One definition I found is having faith to know your heavenly Father is in control.
Faith over fear requires Spiritual Flexibility. It requires that we remain pliable, open-minded, and teachable. Applying Spiritual flexibility should help us practice empathy, show compassion, and express a willingness to listen to views different from our own. It may also require that we continuously check our egos and fight our urge to control every aspect of our lives. Exhibiting flexibility allows us to bend without breaking, learn new things as we go, and see the world from different perspectives. Flexibility can provide the stance we need as we adapt to our ever-changing environment.
This word FLEXIBLE may prove challenging in 2024 but life is full of challenges. What about you? Do you have a word, a goal, or a desire large enough to keep you inspired throughout the year? Would time with a coach focusing on your life, leadership, or transition goals help 2024 start positively and proactively? If the answer is YES, call me, I’m ready to jump into the new year with you.
