Doors of Opportunity

Doors stir up curiosity in me.
I love old doors, doors with character, and charm. Tall ones, small ones; wood, stone, or iron. Doors that have been encircled by flowers or ivy often create an illusion of being blanketed in peacefulness. Doors with ornate ironwork often look foreboding and conjure up tales from the dark side. Doors can have a ton of character and draw me in, or they can be very plain and still look as though they hold secrets to be explored.
Open doors can be inviting, or they can bring an anxiousness when we don’t know what lies on the other side. Physical doors can keep us secure but can also trap us in places where it is not safe for us to settle. There are times when we must close doors so others can be opened. Now and again we open closed doors only to find that there should have been more secure locks installed.
When coaching it often feels like we are exploring doors. We explore real doors (outer blocks) and perceived doors (inner blocks). We open doors to new insights, thoughts, and unspoken desires. At times, we gingerly open closed doors to revisit the roots of limiting beliefs, assumptions, and interpretations. Behind some closed doors… our gremlins lurk.
We open doors not to dwell there but to allow ourselves to be curious. We open doors with the hope that behind every door, opportunities are ready and waiting.
- Opportunity to learn and grow
- Opportunity to permanently close a door and forge a path to the next
- Opportunity to build a door where one doesn’t yet exist
